My academic leadership is demonstrated through senior international roles, including Founding Director of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Minimally Invasive Dentistry Network, President of the IADR Cariology Group, and Councillor for the IADR Geriatric Oral Research Group. Through these roles, I have led global research networks, developed collaborative platforms, and shaped international research priorities. I have served on the Advisory Council of Organisation for Caries Research (ORCA), contributing to strategic direction and guideline development for the management of deep carious lesions in collaboration with organisations including the European Society of Endodontology. I have secured competitive research funding from organisations including Novo Nordisk, Barts Charity, Industry delivering outputs with both academic and clinical impact. My research is strongly translational, linking evidence generation with implementation to improve caries management and oral health outcomes, particularly in older and medically complex populations. I am currently developing an NIHR-funded proposal in collaboration with Clinical Pharmacology colleagues focusing on tangible interventions for the management of oral health in geriatric wards.

Since 2019, I have led a major public engagement programme focused on Oral Health for General Health in Patients with Diabetes. The programme includes: • Public-facing Diabetes Oral Health Resource Hub. • Seven non-commercial educational podcasts with more than 1,500 downloads. • Patient education talks reaching more than 800 attendees. • Multilingual patient information materials. • Collaboration with Diabetes UK, Barts Health and regional diabetes groups. • Patient and public involvement in research design. • Research projects arising directly from patient engagement. • Engagement with policy stakeholders regarding oral-health screening for people living with diabetes. • Finalist for the QMUL Involve Award in recognition of public engagement. • I have also contributed to national awareness through invited media and public communication, including an article in The Independent in 2026 (https://theconversation.com/how-mouth-health-affects-diabetes-and-vice-versa-270182), 63,000+ reads
