Joelle’s NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship will explore and address the oral health needs of people in prison. The project will combine evidence synthesis and assessment of oral health needs with co-design involving people in prison, oral health professionals and other stakeholders. It aims to develop a trauma-informed, population-specific approach to support oral health in prison settings. The fellowship will use participatory and co-design methods to ensure that the resulting approach is acceptable, feasible and responsive to the experiences and priorities of people affected by the criminal justice system.
